Helium mass spectrometer leak detector is a terminology in the gas industry. It uses helium or hydrogen as a leak gas, and a gas analyzer detects helium for leak detection. Helium has low background noise, small molecular weight and viscosity coefficient, so it is easy to pass through leaks and easily diffuse; in addition, helium is an inert gas and does not corrode equipment, so helium is often used as a leak gas.Spray this gas onto the container to be inspected connected to the gas analyzer (adjusted to the working state that only reacts to helium). If the container has a leak, the analyzer will respond, thus knowing where the leak is and amount of air leakage.
How does the helium mass spectrometer leak detector work?
Helium mass spectrometry leak detection technology is an indispensable technology in the field of vacuum leak detection. Because of its high leak detection efficiency, easy operation, sensitive instrument response, high precision, and resistance to interference from other gases, it has been obtained in the resistance furnace leak detection widely used. The helium mass spectrometer leak detector is based on the principle of mass spectrometry, using helium as the leak gas to make the air tightness detection instrument. It is composed of a mass spectrometer chamber composed of an ion source, an analyzer, a collector, a cold cathode ionization gauge, a gas extraction system, and an electrical part. The electrons emitted by the filament in the mass spectrometer chamber oscillate back and forth in the chamber, and collide with the gas in the chamber and the helium gas entering the chamber through the leak to ionize them into positive ions. These helium ions enter the magnetic field under the action of the accelerating electric field. The Lenz force produces a deflection, forming an arc-shaped orbit, and changing the acceleration voltage allows ions of different masses to pass through the magnetic field and the receiving slit to reach the receiving pole and be detected. Helium injection method and helium absorption method are the two most commonly used methods for helium mass spectrometer leak detectors in resistance furnace leak detection.
